GM SOENKONO FEATURED IN THE CHRONICLE JOURNAL – DEC 23, 2019

MP honours martial arts grandmaster
Martial arts Grandmaster Soengkono was honoured December 15th by Thunder Bay-Superior North MP Patty Hajdu, the federal minister of health, for his contribution to the social fabric of our community at the Annual Soengkono Martial Arts Holiday Party held at the Da Vinci Center.

The MP presented a certificate in front of more than 200 students, family and friends of the school. Hajdu, whose sons were students of Grandmaster Soengkono years ago, lauded the Grandmaster for his long-time service to “imbuing wellness” into the community of Thunder Bay.

“How do we stay well… in a world where things are unpredictable… and the pressures of social media, Instagram [and] Facebook [are to be] perfect?” challenged Hajdu, adding that staying well is “… something that Master Song has given Thunder Bay for well over 30 years, and we’re so lucky to have him here.”

Coun. Aldo Ruberto, who is taking Pentjak Silat classes under Grandmaster Soengkono and who was also in attendance, echoed her statements. He assured all of the school’s parents that their “children who are taking these classes are getting the best of the best… and not just in the physical part, but the mental part as well.”

He went on to thank Grandmaster Soengkono, stating “You make our city a better place by producing the people you produce.”
